Kia Optima named ‘International Car of the Year’

  • ICOTY honour adds to Optima's long list of achievements

The Kia Optima has been voted ‘International Car of the Year' by the US Road and Travel Magazine at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Michael Sprague, the Executive Vice President of Marketing and Communications, commented: "We are thrilled that our best-selling Optima has earned the distinction of being named International Car of the Year by Road & Travel Magazine, further elevating its status in the mid-size segment. Road & Travel Magazine gives out ten ICOTY awards to new or existing vehicles with significant or impressive improvements. The winners are handpicked by the ICOTY jury, which consists of nationally renowned motor journalists from respected publications such as MSN autos, Car and Driver and Consumer Guide® Automotive.  The award decision is based on the emotional connection between the consumer and the vehicle.

Road and Travel Magazine's Editor-in-Chief Courtney Caldwell commented: "The Kia Optima rose to the top of the list as the most emotionally compelling vehicle above all others. Its functional, yet sleek design as well as advanced features intertwine effortlessly with consumer lifestyles on many levels, qualities we look for when considering contenders for the ICOTY awards."

The Optima has taken America by storm and was the brands top-selling vehicle in 2012. In addition to this prestigious award the Optima was awarded further titles including the 2012 "Best New Car Value" award from Kiplinger's Personal Finance, "Sedan of the Year" by, one of the "Top Drives for 2012" by the Boston Globe and a "Best Buy" by Consumers Digest.
